People spoke the Guanche language in the Canary Islands until the 16th or 17th century. Spanish eventually overpowered the native language. Some words survive as names of places. Motherwell’s Spanish War painting series inspired this work. I have secretly been obsessed with this series. I have read about it and seen shows with them, I don’t know why. It just resonates with me.
